March 1st, 2021 Kite Newsletter

Hey everyone! Welcome to this first glorious day of March. Over the weekend myself and my partner were down on the beach flying kites and talking about the future. Something about being out in the wind with a kite in hand that makes everything in the world feel right. Speaking of the world, did you hear about the NASA Mars Rover landing this last week? It may not be a kite, but a well known kite company and kite flier/designer played a part in it, and they are playing a part in the first powered flight on another planet!!! Don't ever let folks tell you that kite flying won't take you anywhere.... it can take you to the stars and other planets! You can find out more about it below, along with a few other things like an upcoming kitemakers conference, and a few other things. Check it out!

As always, if you have any questions, or comments, shoot me an email at: info@fortunafound.com

Come join this free kite makers/builders conference hosted by the fine folks at U-MAKE and Fortuna Found. Come join your fellow kite makers, builders, designers, enthusiasts, and more at the Kite Makers Conference! Whether you are an experienced maker/builder/designer or just getting started, there is something for everyone. Much like the wonderful kite making conferences traditionally held throughout the year, there will be chances for you to learn new techniques, engage in fun conversations with pros, and share your own knowledge!

With the current Covid Pandemic, travel to these conferences simple is not possible in person, so, the fine folks at U-MAKE wanted to create a full virtual event that everyone can attend. The best part.... it is free!!!

"News came down this week of two rather major developments in the sport kite world, and potentially meaning two completely different shifts. Well renowned and loved boutique kite builder R-Sky announced in a statement on Facebook that while they are celebrating 25 years in business, they are effectively shutting down their kite division and will be focused on wind art. At the same time the titan in the market, Prism Kite Technology, released a collaboration with the highly popular Supreme Streetwear."

From a little kite store in Seattle..... to the first powered flight on another planet.

"JEZERO CRATER, Mars — Two Ilwaco High School graduates watched the Mars rover landing with pride.

That’s because brother and sister Leland Holeman and Amelia Cook have played an important part in the mission.

Their company, Goodwinds Composites of Mount Vernon, linked up with NASA when the space agency planned its latest search for signs of life on Mars.

A spacecraft took off from Cape Canaveral in Florida last July with a tiny helicopter — called Ingenuity — clamped to the belly of the Perseverance rover." Read more at: https://www.chinookobserver.com/news/
