Fun at Mare Island Bay Area - Vallejo, CA

After the Bay Area 2019 World Maker Faire, it was unknown what the future of Maker Faire and Make Magazines was. Some re-alignment, and they were ready to happen again when the covid pandemic shut everything down. While some other smaller Maker Faires began happening around the world, it wasn't until October 2023 that we saw the return of the Bay Area one. This time, having moved from the space in San Mateo to a Vallejo, just to the east of San Francisco.

The layout is different and more conducive to the thousands of people coming through. Once a coal and oil depot for the US Navy, it later became a ship building yard. Now it serves as a vibrant repurposed industrial space. Also different this year was that the Maker Faire would be split over two weekends.

After the Maker Faire the Fortuna Found crew (Nic O'Neill / Ronda Brewer / Lindsey Johnson) sat down with a view of the Golden Gate bridge to take a few minutes to reflect on the two weekends of the Maker Faire Mare Island (formerly Maker Faire Bay Area). From some of the memorable moments, to the lessons learned, and to what is going to happen at the next one!
