Welcome to the home of the 'We Fly Global Kite Challenge'.  The inaugural WFGKC will be on August 24th, 2019. It is a full day event from midnight to midnight.

Welcome to the inaugural WE FLY GLOBAL KITE CHALLENGE. We are so excited to bring this unique global kite event to you!  There is an amazing worldwide community of kite fliers and this event is meant to bring us all together on a single day in a unified pursuit of our individual goals. Guess what..... you don't have to buy expensive plane tickets or make elaborate travel plans... you can do this anywhere!

So, you are probably asking 'So, what the hell is the WFGKC?!?!"

​

Let me break it down for you:

​

  • WHO IS THE WFGKC FOR? Anybody can participate in this event. It is open to everyone of all abilities - from the experienced pro flier to the one just getting started and everyone in between. All shapes, all sizes, all ages, all kinds of kites. If you tether it and attempt to fly it.... you're in.

  • WHAT IS THE WFGKC? Probably the best question. First of all, this global challenge is like a DIY festival. It is a one day event. You can do it by yourself, do it as a group, do it with strangers. There are no restrictions on how you complete it, but the goal is to at some point on August 24th, 2019, you do something kite related.  If you go to the bottom of this page you will see a list of ideas on what you can do as a part of the challenge.

  • WHERE IS THE WFGKC? Best part about this, it is wherever you want. Beach, mountains, in your living room, downtown, at an art gallery, off the back of a boat, on stage. Just nowhere illegal. Yah... there are a few places you shouldn't fly a kite because of regulations and we encourage you to avoid these areas.... like active runways. Each country has different rules, and we can't list them all here. Use some common sense. 

  • HOW WILL THIS ALL WORK? It is actually pretty simple. You register right here. Once you receive your confirmation email, get to brainstorming. There are a few levels of registration from free to prize pack level, you can upgrade at any point, just let us know. By registering you are committing to doing something kite related and -we really want to emphasize this- sharing what you are doing on the day. More on that sharing thing is down below. 

  • WHY SHOULD I REGISTER?  Why not! Imagine you are out flying knowing that at that very moment people from all over the world are doing the same exact thing and sharing the sky. That idea right there is part of what is behind the slogan 'We Fly'. We here at Fortuna fly kites because it helps us connect with the world and the people around us. To know that you are doing something that is both unique to you yet also an activity that millions around the world and through out time enjoy.... well... it is a nice reminder that no matter what or when, kite flying is not really a lonely solo activity. So, back to the question of why register. Well, it lets others know that, yes indeed, you want to share the sky with them and the world. Think of it like a proclamation or setting a goal, a commitment to fly kites. That is also why there is a free registration option. We want to help encourage, nudge, and pester you to fly a kite on August 24th. We want everybody to be flying whether or not they pay. Because... We Fly, and we are proud to announce that. Now, if you want to sport some snazzy schwag and have a chance to win some cool kite prizes, then go for the full registration. 

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT!!!!

Because we have to get our 'judges' to look over your submissions and get the awards announced on time; It is VERY important that you have your photo or video submitted by midnight PST on August 25th, 2019. (Midnight in Seattle Washington that is). A submission page will be on this website and sent to your email.

I mean, that's pretty much it. But let's say you have some more questions. Here are some more answers!

IS THERE A CUT-OFF DATE FOR REGISTRATION?

Yes. You can actually register up to midnight of August 25th (Seattle Time) if you want to be counted in the mix. (That is the day after the event fyi, but is during the submission timeline)

​

For those that register for the Individual or Group Registration by July 24th, you should receive your items in your mailbox in time for the event. Bonus points to those of you that wear your fancy new t-shirt WHILE doing the WFGKC. Those that register after July 24th, we will try to get your items to you as soon as possible, but it may end up being after August 24th. Remember, if you opted for the paid for registration, you will also need to load your 'proof' by midnight of August 25th to be considered eligible for prizes or awards.

WHAT DO I GET FOR THE $40 INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION?

You not only get to officially say you are part of this super awesome GLOBAL event, but you also get cool schwag! You get a WFGKC t-shirt in your size (select Men's or Women's Cut), some stickers, and you will be eligible for all of the awards and prizes!

WHAT DO I GET FOR THE $60 GROUP REGISTRATION?

Got a partner, or a group of friends and you want to register together? Well, you get 2 shirts (Men or Women's Cut), a pack of stickers, and 4 OFFICIAL ENTRIES into the prize pool. Yeah... that is 4 times the chance to win one of several prizes for participating PLUS schwag. There is no limit to the number of people in your group on your end... but... we are limited on this side to only 2 shirts and the package of stickers.

I AM NOT IN THE USA, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE? 

Yes!!!!! This is a global challenge. Nothing is stopping you from participating.  If you are selecting the free registration, then BAM! you are done. The only difference for our international folks (Outside of the USA/Canada/Mexico) is the shipping for the other registrations. We hate to do this... but there is a surcharge for shipping out of North America. We are setting a flat rate fee so no matter where in the world -$7.50.

ARE THERE PRIZES AT STAKE?  

Hell Yah!!  Not only will there be trophy type prizes for things like 'Most interesting location' & 'Biggest impact', but we will also be hosting a give away of prizes like a brand new Level One Sport Kite. We will be announcing the various kinds of awards and prizes available over the next few months. Note the prize pool is only available to members that register for the Individual or Group option, not for the free option.  The more people that sign up, the more prizes there will be available. :) 

 

However.... We have an amazing sponsor that has stepped up and offered a prize for those that register for the free registration option. We will announce this soon. Trust me... you want this thing... or things. :)

 

I AM ALREADY PLANNING TO BE AT A KITE EVENT THAT DAY, DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL?

Guess what... we are planning to be at an event that day too! It just so happens that it is the Saturday of the Washington State International Kite Festival and we will be on the beach with a few thousand of our favorite kite fliers doing our thing. So... no... you don't have to do anything different. However, make sure you track what you are doing and send it in, so your registration in the prize pools is finalized.

WHAT IF MY PARTNER OR GROUP I AM SIGNING UP WITH IS IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION THAN ME... CAN WE STILL SIGN UP AS A GROUP?

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! The only little itsy-bitsy detail on our end is that the t-shirts will be sent to only one address. Prizes and awards are single items (meaning there is just one of each) but you do get more chances to win.

When you submit your content, only one of you needs to submit the photo or video. Unless you have something really special... then shoot us a message and we will see what we can do. 

​

CAN I WIN BOTH A PRIZE AND AN AWARD?

We want to give the best chance to everyone, so, at this time, no. Those that are selected for awards will not be able to win prizes. A judging panel will go through all of the submissions and select the top ones, and the honorable mentions. Prize recipients will be selected using a random number generator selector.

HOW & WHEN WILL I GET MY SCHWAG?

Once the initial registration is complete on July 24th, we will manufacture and make sure everything is up to our standards then ship your products via USPS in time for the event.  This is important part.... We have no control over International shipments once they leave the United States. So we may have by best estimates an arrival time for your goods on our end, but.... then it hits your local postal system... and that adds a few unexpected days. We will try our best to get things to you, and international shipments are the first ones to go out the door. 

 

HOW DO I SHOW THAT I PARTICIPATED, AND WHERE DO I SEND THE INFO? 

We would like to encourage everyone to post to their favorite social media networks about them doing this challenge. Just think what it will look like when you wake up Monday morning and your Facebook feed is FILLED with photos and videos of kites from friends, new friends, and soon to be new kite friends from all around the world!!  Just make sure you  ​Include the hashtag #WFGKC

If you want to be eligible for any of the prizes or awards, you need to send a photo or video of you doing the thing along with the following information:

  1. Your name

  2. The location

  3. What you are doing that is kite related.

 

Now, you can either email a photo or video to us, use the submission form here on the website (active that week and located under the WFGKC tab), or load it to your favorite social media site and send us the link. Make sure if you are using Facebook, that you set the post to 'public'. Oh... and make sure to have your video or photo submitted by midnight of August 25th, 2019 Seattle, Washington Time!!! Prizes and awards will be announced that following week.

Side note: By submitting a photo/video you agree that Fortuna Found has the right to use it for promotional purposes for the event. We are not planning on doing any weird marketing stuff with your content, we just want to make some cool videos and photos with submissions from across the globe and we have to officially state that. 

  

BY PURCHASING THIS ENTRY, YOU AGREE TO OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS

For real, we are not full-time, professional event organizers, we are not planning what you are doing for you nor do we know your abilities. If you have health issues, perhaps speak with your doctor first. We are not responsible for your day out there, your kite, or anything you do with it or to it. We are simply providing cool gear and organizing all the back-end results for awards. By purchasing this registration, you agree that we are not liable or responsible for any injuries, issues, infractions, etc... we just want you to have a great experience so please judge your activities accordingly.
